Distro Issue 85 On the Edge as Razer attempts to upend mobile gaming

We’ve heard rumblings about Razer’s modular gaming plans since the early whispers of Project Fiona. Now, the gadget is a full-fledged tablet in the form of the Edge and in a fresh edition of our tablet mag, we put the Pro version and a couple of its add-ons through the wringer to test its PC gaming chops. Eyes-On takes a ride on a BRD electic motorcycle, Hands-On tackles GDC 2013 and V-Moda’s Val Kolton works his way through the Q&A. This week’s issue is ready for the taking via the download links below. Also, be sure to grab the latest version of the Distro apps as they become available — major updates to both the Android and iPad software were released earlier this week.

Distro Issue 39 takes a look back at 40 years of Atari and the console's cultural impact

If you’re in the market for some weekend reading, we’ve got quite the issue of our weekly tablet mag in the hopper. James Trew takes a look back at 40 years of cultural impact at the hands of Atari in this installment’s feature. It doesn’t matter to Darren Murph that Apple isn’t making an iPad / MacBook Air hybrid, he still wants one and he tells why. Keeping with the gaming theme, Ludwig Kietzmann asks if Trials Evolution is the perfect game in this week’s Reaction Time. The hands-on section pays a visit to BlackBerry World while spending some time with Spotify’s iPad app and Microsoft’s new SkyDrive software offerings. On the reviews side of things, we put the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight, Acer Iconia Tab A510 and a duo of throwback mirrorless cameras through the wringer. Speaking of e-readers, Switched On offers some thoughts on the matter and IRL lets you in on three more of our go-to gadgets. If that’s not enough, Stat shows how Android slates are feeling the Kindle Fire’s heat, The Next Web’s Martin Bryant has a go at the Q&A and Box Brown has the Last Word on a hero’s required pixel density. Ready to feed that retro gaming appetite? Visit your link of choice below to grab a copy of the weekly to get started.

Android phones and tablets news:

Distro Issue 28: A slew of device reviews and a look back at CP+ 2012

Apple’s kitty cat-flavored OS refresh may have dominated the news this week, but it was a deluge of product reviews that kept the wheels spinning at Distro HQ. Issue 28 is one of our heftiest yet, featuring Sony’s stateside PS Vita, Ainovo’s $99 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, Motorola’s QWERTY kin, the Droid 4, the AT&T version of Samsung’s ample Galaxy Note and LG’s fashionable Prada Phone. Shaking things up a bit, Zach Honig travels to Yokohama, Japan to bring you the biggest breakouts from the 2012 CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show. And, to round it all out, we’ve got a healthy helping of content you won’t see anywhere else, like Ross Rubin’s Switched On, Donald Melanson’s Recommended Reading, our Q&A with Netbooknews’ Nicole Scott and a lesson on “How to Be Happy” by cartoonist Shannon Wheeler.

Engadget Distro now available on Android Market and iOS Newsstand!

Posted by wicked December - 21 - 2011 - Wednesday Comments Off

Android phones and tablets news:

Since we first launched Engadget Distro on the iPad, we’ve received endless requests (seriously, we’re still counting them) for three things: an Android version, iOS Newsstand integration and a fount from which infinite knowledge pours from. We’ve promised to work on two of the three, and it’s time we delivered. We’re pleased to announce that Distro is now available for most Android tablets; a list of minimum supported specifications is after the break, but if you’re using Android 3.x or above, you should be golden. And for those of you iPad owners longing to see Distro on Apple’s Newsstand, we’re there too. So, follow the appropriate link below, and get your download on. And, while we can’t guarantee you’ll be seeing us on your TouchPad anytime soon, the developments don’t stop here.

On a personal note, we’re super excited to be expanding Distro, and we can’t wait to hear back from the folks who will be diving in now that it’s in a few new places. Enjoy!
