Nike+ running app to come pre-loaded on Samsung’s Gear S smartwatch

Gear S_Nike

Samsung’s Tizen-based Gear S smartwatch is now official, so it’s up to the company and third-party developers now to begin making apps available for the device.

Samsung recently announced a new partnership with Nike in a press release — Gear S owners will be able to download the Nike+ Running app, which utilizes the device’s GPS and 3G connectivity to track fitness data.

The app comes pre-loaded on the device and can track their runs and record data all while their phone remains at home.

The features appear to be the same as the usual Nike+ Running App, except this is optimized for the Gear S.

Mapmyfitness

The ‘MapMyFitness’ app in Google Play was updated to version 3.0 just a few days ago, and boy does it look great.

Not only was there a complete UI overhaul, but several functions have been expanded as well.

There’s a new workout recording experience, a slide-out menu (which we’ve all begun to get very familiar with), new friending/social capabilities, new mobile graphs for post-workout use, and new MVP features including mobile coaching, custom spits, heart rate graphs, leaderboard filtering and live tracking.

The app is free, but the MVP advanced features will come at a price.  MVP pricing costs $29.99 annually or $5.99 monthly. All users will be able to take advantage of a free two week trial for the MVP features, and Galaxy S5 owners will get 6 months free.

Hit the break for a link to the app in the Play Store.

Wine on Android demoed at FOSDEM

Posted by wicked February - 4 - 2013 - Monday Comments Off

Android phones and tablets news:

Wine

Wine, the software that's officially not an emulator but allows Microsoft Windows applications to run on Linux, Mac OS, and other platforms, was shown running on an Android environment today at FOSDEM in Brussels. Alexandre Julliard, of Codeweavers and Wine's original developer, demoed Wine on a Apple Macbook running Linux and the Android emulator. The initial tests show Wine running pretty slowly, but Julliard blames much of this on the fact that Android was emulated on the system.

While running Windows programs compiled for ARM processors on Android devices is an interesting idea, things will really take off if Intel can push the X86 processor to Android tablet manufacturers. An Atom CPU powered Android device will allow Codeweavers to push their CrossOver commercial products, like Office, for both consumers and business users.
